English Language Arts

The English Language Arts Department teaches students to learn and effectively apply a variety of reading strategies such as comprehending, interpreting, and evaluating a wide range of texts including fiction, nonfiction, classic, and contemporary works.

WPHS students analyze classic and contemporary literature for the universality of these works and evaluate the use of persuasive techniques. They analyze the use of literary elements, write an informal report using research, and write a persuasive essay using the Six Trait Writing Process and the Six Trait Rubric.
